Lawsuit Filed by Wordle Owner Against Geographical Puzzle Game Worldle

A lawsuit has been initiated by the owner of the popular word-guessing game Wordle against Worldle, a geographical puzzle game that challenges players to identify places rather than words. According to a report by BBC News, the New York Times has stated that Worldle's appearance, sound, and overall meaning are almost identical to those of Wordle, and that it creates confusion among users. Worldle, a browser-based game developed by Kory McDonald in Seattle, attracts approximately 100,000 players per month. In response to the allegations, McDonald noted that there are numerous .LE games, each with its unique theme, such as Flaggle for flags. The New York Times acquired Wordle in 2022 from its creator, Josh Wardle, and has since taken steps to protect its intellectual property rights, including issuing takedown notices to developers of similar games in March.
