Maverick Games Partners with Amazon for Its First Title

Amazon has partnered with Maverick Games to publish the studio's inaugural title. Details of the game reveal it to be an open-world, narrative-driven driving experience, slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Notably, Jamie Brittain, co-creator of the TV series Skins, has been appointed as the game's lead writer. Maverick Games was established in January 2023 by veterans of Playground Games. The studio is currently led by COO Harinder Sangha and studio head and creative director Mike Brown, with a team of approximately 60 employees based in Warwick, UK. Christoph Hartmann, VP of Amazon Games, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating: "During our global search for talented development teams creating engaging titles, Maverick Games emerged as a standout studio capable of delivering exceptional results. "The team, led by Mike, comprises seasoned game developers who excel in their craft and are driven to innovate. Their vision for this game is both refreshing and original, and we look forward to collaborating with them to bring it to a global audience." This announcement follows Amazon Games' recent establishment of a new studio in Bucharest, headed by former Ubisoft managing director Cristian Pana. Additionally, Amazon has recently entered into a deal with Embracer to develop a new Tomb Raider series. In November of the previous year, the company underwent restructuring in its games division, resulting in the loss of 180 positions.
