Relic Entertainment Secures Investment for Independence
In a strategic move, Relic Entertainment has formed a partnership with Emona Capital, a UK-based investment firm, to solidify its position as an independent entity following its sale by Sega earlier this year. As per reports from Game Developer, this alliance has enabled the studio to secure necessary funding, ensuring its independence through the support of Emona Capital. The investment firm is set to back Relic's existing portfolio and facilitate new partnerships with publishers. Relic's CEO, Justin Dowdeswell, expressed enthusiasm about the prospects, stating, "We believe there's tremendous potential in unlocking Relic's creative capabilities as an independent studio. With the talent, technology, and legacy we've built, we're well-positioned for this new chapter." This development comes on the heels of a significant restructuring, where the studio underwent layoffs, impacting 41 positions, just a week after being sold by Sega. Founded in 1997, Relic was previously acquired by Sega in 2013, following the bankruptcy of its former owner, THQ.
