IGN Entertainment Expands Portfolio with Acquisition of Gamer Network Brands

In a significant move, IGN Entertainment has purchased the Gamer Network group of online brands for an undisclosed amount. Following the acquisition, the company has undergone restructuring, resulting in job losses across its UK operations. The Gamer Network portfolio comprises notable publications such as GamesIndustry.biz, Eurogamer (including six local language editions), Rock Paper Shotgun, VG247, and Dicebreaker. Additionally, the business holds stakes in Outside Xbox, Digital Foundry, and Hookshot, which operates several niche sites including Nintendolife, PushSquare, PureXbox, and Time Extension. As a division of Ziff Davis, IGN Entertainment encompasses various brands like IGN, MapGenie, HowLongToBeat, and Humble Bundle. The acquisition sees the websites being transferred from ReedPop, the organizer of PAX and New York Comic-Con, which initially acquired Gamer Network in 2018. However, the sale does not include UK-based events EGX and MCM, or the digital brand Popverse, all of which will remain under ReedPop's ownership.
