Gaming Habits in America: Over 60% Play Weekly

According to recent data from the Entertainment Software Association, approximately 190 million Americans spent at least one hour per week playing video games in 2023. The findings are part of the ESA's 2024 Essential Facts About the Video Game Industry report, which surveyed 5,000 respondents in October 2023. The average age of an American gamer is 36, with nearly two decades of gaming experience. In terms of demographics, 53% of respondents identified as male, while 46% identified as female, and 38% of gamers were people of color, marking a significant increase from the previous year. Notably, 56% of adults aged 18 and above reported playing games regularly, while the highest percentage of gamers was found among children aged five to ten, at 79%. The report also highlighted the industry's growth over the past 25 years, with consumer spending rising from $11.7 billion in 2002 to $57.2 billion in 2023. Stanley Pierre-Louis, president and CEO of the ESA, stated, 'Video games have become an integral part of American life and culture, bringing people of all ages and backgrounds together.' He added, 'While gaming trends and preferences may evolve, the positive impact of video games on our lives remains a constant.'
