Former XCOM Creative Director Establishes Midsummer, a Life Simulation Game Development Studio
Following his departure from Firaxis Studios, former XCOM series creative director Jake Solomon could have easily secured backing for a new turn-based strategy studio. However, he opted for a more challenging path, choosing to found Midsummer, a life simulation game development studio, a genre he had not previously explored. Solomon managed to raise $6 million in seed funding, led by Transcend, to establish the studio, which is currently working on its first project. The team at Midsummer, comprising mostly of Firaxis veterans, is focused on creating a unique life simulation experience that incorporates elements of emergent storytelling and player choice. According to Solomon, the key to the studio's success lies in its ability to craft a compelling narrative that allows players to make meaningful decisions and experience authentic, relatable storylines. Despite the challenges posed by the current gaming market, Solomon remains optimistic about Midsummer's prospects, citing the underserved nature of the modern life setting in games and the potential for the studio to carve out its own niche in the industry.
