April UK Gaming Charts: Fallout 4 Leads the Way
According to the latest GSD data, Fallout 4 emerged as the top-selling game in the UK for April, with 2.23 million games sold nationwide, representing a 7% decline from the previous year. This decrease can be attributed to the lack of major releases in April 2024, unlike the previous year, which saw the launch of notable titles such as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Dead Island 2. The surge in Fallout 4's popularity can be linked to significant discounts on the game, coinciding with the release of the highly acclaimed Fallout TV series on Amazon. As a result, other Fallout titles, including Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 76, and Fallout 3, have also seen a rise in the charts, with positions at No.8, No.9, and No.11, respectively. The absence of new titles in the Top Ten is notable, with Stellar Blade debuting at No.12. The usual suspects, including Helldivers 2, EA Sports FC 24, Call of Duty, GTA, Hogwarts Legacy, and Red Dead Redemption 2, continue to perform well. However, the UK console market continues to struggle, with a 39% decline in hardware sales to 71,000 units in April. All major platforms have posted declines, with overall console sales down nearly 30% year-to-date. Xbox Series console sales have decreased by just under 25%, PS5 sales are down over 25%, and Switch sales have plummeted 38%. The situation is expected to persist until new hardware or significant game releases are introduced to stimulate sales. In terms of accessories, 530,000 units were sold in April, representing a 28% decline from March but a 7% increase from the previous year. The DualSense White controller has reclaimed the top spot, while the Xbox White wireless controller and Ear Force Recon 50X Headset for Xbox have also seen significant movement in the charts.
