Nintendo Excludes Switch 2 From Sales Projections Ahead of April 2025

Nintendo's projected sales of 13.5 million console units by March 31, 2025, do not account for the next-generation Switch. According to Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa, 'The sales forecasts for this period do not include sales of the Nintendo Switch successor device.' The company has yet to discuss the launch timing of the new console, suggesting its release might not occur during the current fiscal year. Earlier, Nintendo predicted a 20% decline in net sales for the year ending March 31, 2025. The platform holder plans to announce the Switch's successor within the fiscal year but will not mention it in the June Nintendo Direct. Furukawa addressed concerns over meeting demand and preventing scalping, stating that semiconductor supply issues are not anticipated to be a major problem for the console's launch. He confirmed the next model will utilize the Nintendo Account system and expects an increase in digital game sales, while emphasizing the importance of physical versions. The target of 13.5 million Switch sales is considered ambitious, but Furukawa remains optimistic, citing the continued strength of Switch sales and the need to balance momentum for the current console with preparations for the next. He believes the announcement of the successor will have some impact on sales but aims to maximize sales by maintaining a balance between new and existing customer demand.
