EA Expects Over 50% of Development to Benefit from Gen AI

Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts, discussed the potential of generative AI to streamline the company's development process and empower developers during a recent earnings call. Wilson expressed enthusiasm for the technology's ability to enhance efficiency and grant developers more time to focus on creative aspects. "We're exploring how it can increase our efficiency, provide our developers with more capabilities, and allow them to allocate their time more effectively," he stated. Based on initial assessments, EA believes that over 50% of its development processes will be positively impacted by advancements in generative AI. The company had previously indicated that it would primarily utilize generative AI during the ideation phase of development. In other news from the earnings call, CFO Stuart Canfield noted a 2% year-over-year decline in live service net bookings, which totaled $5.23 billion, and warned of challenging times ahead for EA Sports FC and Apex Legends in 2025. Despite this, Canfield highlighted the successful rebranding of EA Sports FC and the strong performance of franchises like Madden, which contributed to a 59% year-over-year increase in net income, reaching $1.27 billion.
