Remedy Scraps Kestrel Multiplayer Project to Prioritize Established Franchises

Remedy Entertainment has revealed that it is canceling its codenamed Kestrel multiplayer project to concentrate on its established franchises. The decision was made to allocate resources more effectively and drive progress on other games in development. Initially announced in November 2023, Kestrel was intended to be a premium multiplayer experience, with Tencent on board as a co-funding and co-publishing partner. However, Remedy has now opted to redirect the talent and resources dedicated to Kestrel towards its other projects, which are further along in development. According to CEO Tero Virtala, "Although Codename Kestrel demonstrated potential, it was still in the early stages. By increasing our focus on our other projects, which are progressing well, we can ensure their continued advancement and reallocate the skilled developers from Kestrel to these initiatives, allowing our support functions to concentrate on their core operations." This strategic move aims to optimize the development process and capitalize on the momentum of Remedy's existing franchises.
