Nintendo Takes Action Against Thousands of Yuzu Emulator Repositories

Nintendo has filed a DMCA takedown notice targeting over 8,500 GitHub repositories containing Yuzu emulator code for the Switch console. According to the notice submitted to GitHub, these repositories allegedly "provide access to the Yuzu emulator or code derived from it", which Nintendo asserts violates its technological protection measures by enabling the playback of unauthorized Switch game copies. In response, GitHub notified the repository owners, giving them a chance to revise their content before taking it down, while also offering legal guidance and details on submitting counter-notices. This move follows a settlement reached in March, where Yuzu developer Tropic Haze agreed to pay Nintendo $2.4 million and cease support for the emulator, after Nintendo initiated legal proceedings against them in February for copyright infringement.
