Take-Two Interactive Reportedly Closes Roll7 and Intercept Games, Private Division Impacted by Layoffs

New information has surfaced regarding the ongoing layoffs at Take-Two Interactive, indicating that the publisher is shutting down two smaller studios. According to internal documents obtained by Bloomberg, UK-based developer Roll7, known for the OlliOlli series and Rollerdrome, is slated for closure, with the publisher currently working on severance packages for affected employees. The documents also reveal plans to close Intercept Games, the Seattle-based studio behind Kerbal Space Program 2. Yesterday, GamesIndustry.biz reported on a WARN notice filed in Washington State, which disclosed that a Take-Two-owned Seattle office will close in June, impacting 70 employees. This number is roughly equivalent to the staff count at Intercept Games. Both studios operate under Private Division, Take-Two's label for publishing independent games. The label established Intercept Games in 2020 after assuming development of Kerbal Space Program 2 and acquired Roll7 in 2021. Bloomberg reported that additional Private Division staff have been affected by the layoffs, with a source stating that the vast majority of the label's teams in Seattle, New York, Las Vegas, and Munich have been let go. When asked for confirmation, Take-Two provided the same statement as the previous day, which is included below in its entirety. The statement announces a cost reduction program aimed at enhancing the company's margin profile while investing in growth. As part of this effort, the company is streamlining its pipeline, eliminating projects, and restructuring its organization, resulting in headcount reduction and decreased future hiring needs. Take-Two announced last month that it would be laying off approximately 5% of its staff, around 580 people, in 2024 as part of its third cost-cutting program since February 2023.
