Montreal Game Workers Unite and CSN Collaborate to Enhance Labor Standards
In a bid to improve working conditions, Game Workers Unite Montreal has formed an alliance with the Confédération des Syndicats Nationaux (CSN). According to a report by Polygon, this collaboration aims to create a province-wide labor union for game industry professionals based in Quebec. Previously operating as a worker's organization, Game Workers Unite Montreal was not officially recognized as a union. Through its partnership with the CSN, employees can now join unions affiliated with their workplaces. "This union will enable members to collectively determine their priorities while maintaining autonomy for local chapters," stated Caroline Senneville, president of the CSN. "A unified, province-wide union will provide workers with increased bargaining power, particularly benefiting smaller studios, by forming a larger collective voice. The key objectives of this partnership between Game Workers Unite Montreal and the CSN include enhanced job security, greater creative freedom, and a workplace environment free from discrimination.
