IGDA Urges Industry Leaders to Condemn Hate and Support Diversity

The International Game Developers Association has emphasized the need for industry leaders to take a stand against hate and promote diversity, particularly in light of recent mass layoffs. In an interview with IGDA executive director Jakin Vela, the organization's efforts to support diversity initiatives and developers in emerging markets were highlighted. Vela noted that despite the importance of diversity, many companies have cut diversity programs during layoffs, and that around 28% of respondents to the IGDA's Developer Satisfaction Survey did not have diversity or inclusive policies at their workplace. The IGDA has revamped its ethics processes following an investigation into its handling of harassment complaints, and is now focusing on supporting career development and emerging markets through initiatives such as its mentorship platform and incubation and acceleration special interest group. Vela emphasized the need for government funding to support game development in emerging markets, and the importance of mentorship in career advancement, particularly in regions with limited industry history.
