Veteran Game Industry Professional Matthew Shell Passes Away

Veteran games industry professional Matthew Shell has passed away, as announced by Game Awards host Geoff Keighley on social media. Shell began his career in the games industry in 2002 at Sega of America, where he worked as a project manager for a year, contributing to titles such as Virtua Tennis, Sega Rally Championship, and Sonic Advance 2. He then joined LucasArts, a division of Lucasfilm, where he spent 14 years, eventually becoming senior product marketing manager before departing in 2017. During his tenure, he worked on marketing campaigns for several Star Wars video games, including Star Wars: Battlefront 2, Lego Star Wars, and Star Wars: Empire at War. Shell later joined Disney as director of brand marketing, where he continued to work on LucasArts game titles for five years. His most recent campaigns included Star Wars: Hunters, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Former colleagues, including Tony Rowe and Ray Almeda, have paid tribute to Shell on social media, remembering his dedication to the industry, his sense of humor, and his passion for the Star Wars franchise.
