Rumored Nintendo Switch 2 Features Magnetic Joy-Cons and Enhanced Display

Recent leaks appear to have revealed key details about Nintendo's upcoming console, including advancements in its controllers, display, and other features. The information originated from a Facebook post by Mobapad, a Chinese manufacturer of peripherals, including Joy-Cons, in partnership with Nintendo's supply chain. Although the post was later edited to remove the details, an image was shared by Wccftech. According to Mobapad, the new console represents a 'conservative evolution' of the original, akin to a 'refined Pro version' of the Switch. Notably, the screen is said to be larger and support 1080p resolution, a step up from the current 720p maximum on the Switch's screen, though 1080p is achievable in docked mode on a TV. The device is expected to support all existing Joy-Con and Pro controllers but with a twist: the new controllers are reportedly smaller and attach using magnetic docking instead of the current slot system. The console is said to be backwards compatible with all physical and digital games from the original Switch, with a cartridge slot that can read Switch game cards. However, new games for the Switch 2 will reportedly use different cards incompatible with the current console. Compatibility extends to docks as well, with the new console using a USB-C charging port, and a redesigned dock with minor design enhancements is also planned. Official specifications for Nintendo's next console have not been announced, with reports indicating a launch no earlier than March 2025. This comes after Nintendo announced it would not be attending Gamescom 2024, suggesting the reveal of the Switch's successor may happen after the August event.
