Developers Earn $544,290 from Playdate Storefront

Since the launch of its storefront, Catalog, in March 2023, Playdate's creator, Panic, has reported sales of over 150,000 games, resulting in $544,290 in revenue for developers after deducting taxes, processing fees, and the company's 25% share. This figure is based on sales data from the past year, during which the average game price on the platform was $5.36, with prices ranging from $1 to $15 set by developers. The top countries for game purchases on the platform were the US, UK, Germany, Canada, and Japan. As of April 3, 2024, the storefront featured 181 titles, excluding over 800 games available for sideloading from itch.io. Notably, 38,000 of the 70,000 shipped Playdate units have made purchases on the storefront, while the remaining 32,000 users have focused on the 24 titles included in the handheld's Season One.
