Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Tops Japan's Monthly Charts with Record Sales

In March, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth emerged as the best-selling game in Japan, with a total of 310,596 units sold, dominating the top five spots in the boxed games charts. According to Famitsu's latest data, the second installment of Square Enix's Final Fantasy 7 remake achieved the second-highest launch month sales for a PS5 game in Japan, surpassed only by Final Fantasy 16, which sold 336,000 units in June. Rebirth's sales were almost three times that of the next best-selling game, Nintendo's Princess Peach: Showtime, which sold 105,000 copies in two weeks. Atlus' Unicorn Overlord technically took the second spot with combined sales of 111,000 units across different platforms. The top five best-selling games of the month were all new releases, a feat last seen in October 2021. Nintendo led the publishers in terms of sales, but Square Enix generated more revenue, with ¥3.1 billion ($20.1 million) compared to Nintendo's ¥2.9 billion ($18.8 million). The Switch remained the top-selling console, with over one million units sold, while the PS5 followed closely with 653,000 units sold.
