Epic Games Urges Google to Revise Play Store Policies

Epic Games has submitted a proposal to allow third-party app stores on the Google Play Store for a period of six years, following a recent antitrust trial victory. The filing, made to US District Judge James Donato in San Francisco, suggests Google should provide access to its app catalog and permit app library porting. Epic's proposal outlines several restrictions on Google, including limitations on agreements with competing distributors, exclusivity clauses, and restrictions on app removals. The goal, according to Epic, is to foster competition in the Android app distribution and in-app billing services markets, ultimately benefiting developers and users. Epic also recommends the establishment of a compliance committee and the appointment of a compliance officer to ensure adherence to antitrust laws. In response, Google stated that Epic aims to exploit the benefits of Google Play without shouldering the costs, and plans to contest the verdict, citing Android's open nature and the presence of competing app stores.
