Possibility Space Closes Its Doors

Former employees have confirmed that Possibility Space has ceased operations. The news was initially shared on social media by a former staff member and separately verified by another impacted developer. This development comes on the heels of parent company Prytania Media's formal shutdown of its Crop Circle Games studio just weeks prior. In a statement on the now-offline Crop Circle website, former Prytania Media CEO Annie Delisi Strain mentioned that the company had also reduced its non-developer workforce as part of a 'successful realignment' of its gaming and staffing operations at its other studios. Although Crop Circle was officially closed in late March, it had effectively stopped functioning in early February when staff were let go without severance or furloughed. The current status of Prytania's remaining studios, Dawon Entertainment and Fang & Claw, remains unclear. Attempts to contact Prytania have been unsuccessful, with an email sent to the company's information request account being returned undeliverable. Possibility Space was the first studio announced by Prytania Media in October 2021, with a mission to create 'world-class games within safe and ethical work environments' and a focus on hiring from marginalized communities. Prytania was founded by Annie Delisi Strain and her husband Jeff Strain, who is known for co-founding Undead Labs and ArenaNet. An update from Polygon's Nicole Carpenter revealed a note sent to Possibility Space staff by Jeff Strain, informing them of the studio's closure. The statement suggests that the studio and its publishing partner mutually agreed to cancel their game project after confidential information was leaked to a reporter, leading to the studio's closure. Strain mentioned that it would take a few days to determine the severance packages for employees. Regarding his future plans, Strain stated that he is stepping away from the gaming industry to focus on his family and care for Annie.
