The Game Developer Association of India (GDAI) has officially unveiled the inaugural group of studios that will take part in its newly launched Supernova incubation initiative. After a competitive selection process that attracted more than 260 applications, a total of fifteen game‑development studios have been chosen to join the program.

Supernova, which began operations in July 2026, is designed as a three‑month intensive accelerator for early‑stage studios that have not yet generated revenue. Participants will receive a blend of mentorship, technical credits, and strategic introductions to potential investors and publishing partners. The program culminates in a high‑visibility Demo Day, where each studio will have the chance to showcase its prototype or early‑access build to a broad audience at the upcoming India Game Developers Conference (IGDC).

The incubator is supported by a consortium of industry heavyweights, including global gaming giant Tencent, the mobile‑gaming distribution platform Indus Appstore, advertising and monetisation specialist Mintegral, as well as regional technology and publishing firms IVIPRO, SpielFabrique and Lakshya Digital. In particular, Indus Appstore has pledged to give the selected studios priority onboarding and a bundle of ad‑credit packages, which are intended to jump‑start user‑acquisition campaigns and help the teams gather early player feedback. "The formation of this first Supernova cohort marks a pivotal moment for the Indian gaming ecosystem," said Rajan Navani, a board member of GDAI and chair of its Incubation Sub‑Committee.

"Over the next twelve weeks, we will bring together seasoned mentors, cutting‑edge technology partners, experienced publishers and forward‑looking investors. Our goal is to address each studio's unique development challenges and business objectives, enabling them to move from concept to market‑ready product more quickly." The fifteen studios that earned a place in the program are: - Absurd Games - Team Quasar - AbhiTech Games - Konkan Coast Studios - Dunali Games - Chitrakala Interactive - Ashdev Studios - Compiling Shaders - Brahman Studios - Yaari Games - Funwave Studio - Arcadon Games - Shivaansh Artvision - AnonVision Creative Labs - Parkince These studios represent a diverse cross‑section of the Indian game‑development landscape, ranging from small indie teams focused on narrative‑driven experiences to technically ambitious groups experimenting with emerging technologies such as augmented reality and procedural generation.

By providing them with access to industry‑grade tools, marketing credits, and a network of potential publishing partners, Supernova aims to reduce the time and financial risk traditionally associated with bringing a new game to market. GDAI itself is a representative body for more than 200 member studios across the country. Its broader mission includes nurturing talent, expanding global outreach, and advocating for policies that support the growth of the gaming sector.

The Supernova program dovetails with these objectives by creating a pipeline for fresh talent and innovative ideas to reach both domestic and international audiences. In addition to the mentorship and credit components, the program will feature a series of workshops covering topics such as game design fundamentals, monetisation strategies, user‑acquisition analytics, and cross‑platform deployment. Industry veterans from Tencent and other partner firms will lead many of these sessions, offering participants a rare glimpse into best practices employed by leading global studios.

Furthermore, the partnership with Indus Appstore is expected to provide a tangible advantage in the highly competitive mobile market. By granting ad credits and streamlined onboarding, the studios can launch targeted campaigns to acquire their first users, gather critical engagement data, and iterate on gameplay mechanics based on real‑world feedback.

This data‑driven approach is essential for pre‑revenue studios that need to demonstrate traction to attract further investment. The Demo Day at IGDC will serve as the program's public showcase.

Each studio will present a polished demo or vertical slice of their project, followed by a Q&A session with potential investors, publishers, and media representatives. The exposure offered by IGDC—one of the largest gaming events in South Asia—could open doors to distribution deals, funding rounds, and strategic partnerships that would otherwise be difficult for fledgling studios to secure.

GDAI hopes that the success of the Supernova cohort will inspire additional studios to apply in future iterations, ultimately scaling the program to support a larger number of developers. The association also envisions leveraging the lessons learned from this first cohort to refine its curriculum, expand its network of mentors, and increase the pool of financial and technical resources available to participants. Beyond the immediate benefits for the selected studios, the Supernova initiative aligns with GDAI's long‑term vision of fostering a vibrant, self‑sustaining gaming ecosystem in India. By equipping developers with the skills, connections, and capital needed to succeed, the association aims to position India as a major source of innovative gaming content on the global stage.

The program also seeks to reach a broader audience of aspiring developers; GDAI has set an ambitious target of engaging more than 25,000 students across the country through workshops, mentorship programs, and educational outreach initiatives. In summary, the launch of the Supernova incubation program represents a strategic investment in the future of Indian game development. With the backing of industry leaders like Tencent and Indus Appstore, and a carefully curated cohort of fifteen promising studios, GDAI is poised to accelerate the growth of homegrown talent, drive new creative output, and strengthen India's position in the competitive global gaming market.
