Relic Entertainment Implements Layoffs Following Acquisition from Sega

Relic Entertainment has confirmed a round of redundancies subsequent to its acquisition from Sega. In a LinkedIn statement, the studio refrained from disclosing the number of affected employees, but external development producer Robyn Smale revealed that 41 individuals were impacted. The company stated, 'The decision to let people go was not taken lightly, and was made solely to provide Relic with the best possible chance to survive in an increasingly volatile industry.' The firm is providing support to those affected, including severance packages and outplacement assistance. Following its separation from Sega, Relic will transition into an independent studio backed by an external investor, as announced on social media. This move follows a prior restructuring in May, which resulted in the layoffs of 121 employees, undertaken to 'ensure that maximum focus can be placed on Relic's core franchises,' according to Sega at the time.
