Unity Ends Support for Ziva Dynamics, Licenses Technology to DNEG

Unity has revealed that it will cease to sell and support Ziva Dynamics products, having entered into a licensing agreement with DNEG, a prominent VFX and animation studio. This move is part of the company's broader restructuring initiative, which involves concentrating its efforts on proprietary technologies such as the Unity Editor and Runtime, Unity Cloud, and its monetization solutions. According to a recent blog post, Unity believes that by narrowing its focus to these core areas, it can more effectively cater to the needs of its community. Consequently, the company will no longer accept new purchases, trials, or renewals of Ziva's products. Initially acquired by Unity in January 2022 to enhance digital character creation tools, Ziva Dynamics' technology has now been licensed to DNEG, although Unity will retain ownership of the acquired technology. DNEG has announced that it will be absorbing a significant proportion of Ziva Dynamics' staff and plans to further develop the Ziva toolset to bolster its creature pipeline and support the creation of captivating digital characters and creatures across various projects.
