Landmark Union Contract Reached Between Sega and CWA

The collective bargaining agreement between Sega and the Allied Employees Guild Improving Sega (AEGIS) has been successfully ratified. This milestone agreement is hailed as the first of its kind for a major US game development company. The contract encompasses a range of protections and benefits for union members across various departments, including game development, localization, and marketing. Key provisions include salary increases for all unit members, protection against unjust discipline and termination, layoff safeguards with severance packages, guaranteed credits for all staff involved in game development, and structured benefits such as annual bonuses, retirement plans, and health insurance. Additionally, management has committed to providing advance notice of any planned integration of artificial intelligence in the workplace. AEGIS, in partnership with the Communications Workers of America, represents approximately 150 full-time and contract employees at Sega of America who came together to form a union in July 2023. According to CWA 9510 President Peter O'Brien, "The video game industry's success is built on the hard work of its employees, yet they often do not receive the fair compensation, job stability, or career advancement they deserve. The unionized workers at Sega of America have demonstrated the power of collective action in securing the respect and rewards their efforts have earned."
