Smilegate Barcelona Shut Down

According to recent reports, Smilegate Barcelona has ceased operations after a four-year run. The news was confirmed by world director Stephane Blais through a social media post, in which he stated, 'As our industry increasingly resembles a game of Battleship, it's our turn to take a hit.' Blais revealed that the studio is closing down, resulting in the layoff of all employees, and expressed his openness to exploring new opportunities. Since its inception in 2020, Smilegate Barcelona had been focused on developing AAA games, including an unannounced open-world project. Efforts have been made to obtain a statement from Smilegate regarding this development.
