Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Introduces the So-Fu Accelerator Program

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in Japan has launched the So-Fu project, a unique accelerator program designed to support independent game developers. The program provides participants with expert mentorship, financial assistance, and valuable industry connections. To be eligible for the So-Fu initiative, applicants must be under the age of 35 and have completed junior high school by April 1, 2024. The program consists of a four-part curriculum, where indie developers will attend workshops, create project plans, and finally present their work to key stakeholders in the gaming industry by February 2025. Notable mentors in the So-Fu program include Tomoko Miya from Flamebair Games and Masashi Kimura, representative director of Room6 Inc. According to Takaaki Ichijo, a developer and executive member of the Indie Game Incubator, which is partnering with So-Fu, this is the first government-backed accelerator of its kind to support independent game creators in Japan. Ichijo expressed his thoughts on social media, highlighting the significance of this initiative. Independent game developers in Japan can apply for the program until April 26.
