Layoffs Hit IGN Creators Guild, Prompting Union Response
A recent round of layoffs has resulted in the departure of three IGN staff members who were part of the IGN Creators Guild. The union expressed surprise at the layoffs, which affected producer Francesca Rivera, video producer Jesse Gill, and senior editor Joshua Yehl, in a social media post on March 19. According to the union, the decision was made without any economic necessity and without prior consultation. The organization views this as a breach of trust, citing that the laid-off staff could have been reassigned to other available positions within the company. The layoffs are expected to have a negative impact on the remaining staff, particularly with the upcoming busy events schedule. In response, the IGN Creators Guild has filed Unfair Labor Practice charges and is seeking a comprehensive agreement on layoffs and just cause language to prevent similar incidents in the future.
