Screen Australia Allocates $1 Million to Support Indie Game Developers
Screen Australia has committed over AU$1.6 million to bolster the independent game development sector. This investment will be divided to support 12 projects through the Games Production Fund and an additional 15 titles via the Emerging Gamemakers Fund. According to Minister for the Arts Tony Burke, this initiative aims to secure the future of Australian game development, ensuring the country remains at the forefront of innovation. Burke emphasized, "This support enables us to nurture the next generation of Australian game development, comparable to successes like Unpacking or Untitled Goose Game." He further highlighted that while these games may not necessarily be set in Australia, they exemplify the nation's creative prowess and storytelling capabilities. The Games Production Fund provides independent studios with grants of up to $100,000 to facilitate project development. In contrast, the Emerging Gamemakers Fund offers up to $30,000 for the creation of novel projects by budding developers. This announcement follows the introduction of new funding initiatives by the Australian government in partnership with Screen Australia, aimed at bolstering the domestic game development industry.
