Margot Robbie's Production Company to Bring The Sims to the Big Screen

A film based on The Sims is in development, courtesy of Margot Robbie's production company, LuckyChap. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kate Herron, known for her work on Loki, will direct the project and co-write the screenplay alongside Briony Redman. Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment will also be involved as producers, while Electronic Arts, the publisher of The Sims, will contribute to the project in both creative and production capacities. LuckyChap, which is led by Robbie, Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara, and Sophia Kerr, has recently produced the film Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Robbie and Ryan Gosling. The Sims, created by Will Wright and developed by Maxis, was first published by Electronic Arts in 2000 and has since grown into a popular life simulation franchise with four generations of games, the most recent being The Sims 4, released in 2014. Plans for a film adaptation have been underway since 2007, when 20th Century Fox acquired the rights, but the project was canceled in 2019 following Disney's acquisition of the studio.
