Virtuos Expands Portfolio with Acquisition of Beyond-FX
In a move to bolster its capabilities, Virtuos has acquired Beyond-FX, a renowned Los Angeles-based visual effects studio, for an undisclosed amount. Since its inception in 2015, Beyond-FX has established itself as a co-development studio, delivering high-quality VFX for AAA games, including notable titles such as Mortal Kombat 1, Valorant, and God of War. This strategic acquisition is set to enhance Virtuos' portfolio by leveraging Beyond-FX's expertise in real-time VFX, thereby supporting the company's overall growth. Following the acquisition, Keith Guerrette, CEO and studio head of Beyond-FX, will continue to lead the studio. Guerrette expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, "By joining forces with Virtuos' dedicated teams, Beyond-FX aims to redefine industry standards by fostering strong partnerships, efficient collaboration, and pushing the boundaries of game engine artistry." Dennis Cooper, Virtuos' regional director of North America, welcomed the addition of Beyond-FX, highlighting the shared passion for innovation and education. This acquisition marks a significant milestone in Virtuos' global expansion, underscoring its ambition to become the leading external game developer worldwide. The company has been actively expanding its presence, having opened new studios in 2023, including Virtuos Tokyo, Virtuos Labs Warsaw, and Virtuos Labs Prague. Although the firm closed its co-development studio Calypte in October, it emphasized that this decision was isolated and would not impact its other studios.
