Embracer Offloads Saber Interactive in $247 Million Deal

In a significant move, Embracer has finalized the sale of Saber Interactive for $247 million. The transaction, announced today, involves the transfer of select assets to Beacon Interactive, a newly established company founded by Saber's co-founder, Matthew Karch. As part of the agreement, Saber will retain ownership of several studios, including Nimble Giant, 3D Realms, and Mad Head Games, among others. Conversely, Embracer will maintain control over a range of studios, such as Zen Studios, 4A Games, and Tripwire, while also retaining intellectual properties and publishing rights for various titles, including Killing Floor 3 and Teardown. This deal is expected to reduce Embracer's debt by approximately $205 million and will result in the cessation of all operations in Russia. According to Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors, this transaction represents a mutually beneficial solution, positioning both companies for future growth. Matthew Karch, Saber co-founder and director of Beacon Interactive, echoed this sentiment, stating that the divestment will enable both parties to focus on their respective business expansion. Notably, Embracer initially acquired Saber Interactive in 2020 for $525 million. The company's current debt stands at $1.5 billion, with plans to reduce it to $762.1 million by March 31, although this target is now deemed unlikely.
