Juergen Goeldner Takes the Reins as Interim CEO of Starbreeze
A leadership shift is underway at Starbreeze, as Tobias Sjögren steps down from his role as CEO, with Juergen Goeldner, a board member, assuming the position on an interim basis. The transition is effective immediately, and the company has initiated a search for a permanent CEO. Goeldner brings over 40 years of experience in the gaming industry to the table, having previously served as CEO of Focus Home Interactive and held executive roles at Square Enix, Eidos, and THQ Germany. He will be working closely with Sjögren to ensure a seamless transition. Sjögren, who joined Starbreeze in 2019 and took over as interim CEO in 2020, oversaw the company's turnaround after a near-insolvency in 2018, culminating in its first profitable year, driven by the successful launch of Payday 3 in September 2023. The reason behind Sjögren's departure is attributed to a shift in company strategy, as stated by Torgny Hellström, chairman of the board. Hellström expressed gratitude to Sjögren for his contributions and welcomed Goeldner as a strong interim solution, citing his extensive industry experience. Goeldner expressed enthusiasm for his new role, highlighting Starbreeze's potential to leverage its strengths and develop its IP portfolio, following the successful launch of Payday 3.
