Study Reveals Safety Concerns in Gaming Communities Among Youths

According to a new study by Take This, a substantial 54% of teenagers aged 13-17 consider it vital to have a harassment-free experience in online gaming platforms. The findings, based on data compiled by Nielsen from 2,408 gamers, indicate that young adults aged 18-24 feel the least secure in gaming communities. Notably, one in five players within this age group has decreased their gaming expenditure due to the prevalence of hate and harassment. Furthermore, 40% of respondents admitted to disabling voice chat while playing online to avoid such negative experiences. The report also sheds light on the disparities in perceived safety among different demographic groups, with Asian and Black players feeling particularly unsafe, at 18% and 16%, respectively. Moreover, nearly a quarter of bisexual players from the LGBTQ+ community reported feeling unsafe while gaming online.
