Torus Games Announces Temporary Closure and Team Layoffs

Torus, an Australian game development studio, has undergone significant restructuring, resulting in the temporary suspension of operations and the laying off of its entire team. This development was first reported by journalist Jack Ryan on social media, following which founder Bill McIntosh provided additional context to GamesIndustry.biz, stating that while the company is not yet dissolved, its future will depend on the outcome of the current year. McIntosh explained that upon returning to work in early January, all employees were given a month's notice, during which time the studio attempted to secure new projects. Unfortunately, these efforts were unsuccessful, leading to the departure of half the team by the end of January and the remainder by the end of February. McIntosh emphasized that despite the current hiatus, the company still maintains some ongoing business interests and will reassess its situation later this year to determine whether to permanently cease operations. Having founded Torus Games in 1994, McIntosh had successfully guided the studio in developing licensed titles across various platforms for nearly three decades.
