Spearhead Games Announces Significant Staff Reductions
Spearhead Games has made the decision to halt production of its RPG sandbox game, Unforetold: Witchstone, which was launched on January 4, and will be letting go of a substantial portion of its workforce. According to a statement released on LinkedIn by the Montreal-based game developer, production of the game will be suspended indefinitely as of March 8, and the game's Discord server will also be discontinued. The studio explained that the past few weeks have been particularly tough due to financial expectations that did not materialize, resulting in a difficult financial situation. "We are deeply saddened to have been forced into making the difficult decision to lay off the majority of our team due to these financial constraints," the statement said. "These talented developers have created entire worlds from scratch, driven by their sheer determination and collective creativity – a true testament to the dedication and passion that has defined our studio. We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to them for their tireless efforts and unwavering passion." The studio also stated: "We are committed to providing support to those affected and have engaged external companies to offer personalized career guidance, emotional support, networking opportunities, and job placement assistance. "As we navigate this transition period, we kindly request your understanding and patience as we explore ways to rebuild and move forward once again." Established in 2011 by former developers from Ubisoft and EA, Spearhead Games has released several notable titles, including Tiny Brains, Omesight, and Stories: The Path of Destinies.
