Nine Dots Expands Its Reach into Game Publishing

Nine Dots Studio, the developer behind Outward, has unveiled plans to venture into publishing games from external developers through its new division, Nine Dots Publishing. In an interview with GamesBeat, CEO Guillaume Boucher-Vidal stated that while the studio will continue to develop and publish its own titles, it also aims to collaborate with other studios to bring their games to market. The studio, based in Quebec, intends to allocate between $1 million and $2.5 million towards publishing projects, focusing primarily on console and PC games. Boucher-Vidal reflected on his past experiences working with publishers as a developer, noting that these relationships were often more complicated than necessary. He founded Nine Dots with the goal of creating games in a more developer- and audience-friendly manner, without sacrificing productivity or quality. Boucher-Vidal views the expansion into publishing as a natural extension of this vision, driven by a philosophy of creating value rather than extracting it, which will inform the company's business decisions just as it has its game development process.
