Nintendo Reaches $2.4 Million Settlement with Yuzu Developer

In a recent agreement, Tropic Haze, the developer behind the Nintendo Switch emulator Yuzu, has consented to pay Nintendo $2.4 million to settle a lawsuit. According to a joint filing reported by The Verge, Tropic Haze will surrender its domain name to Nintendo of America and remove all circumvention tools associated with the emulator. This decision impacts not only Yuzu but also the Citra emulator for the Nintendo 3DS, as the developer, Bunnei, announced the discontinuation of support for both projects on Discord. The developer expressed that the projects were initiated out of passion for Nintendo and its products, without intent to cause harm. However, they acknowledged that the emulators' ability to bypass Nintendo's security measures has led to widespread piracy. The settlement is pending judicial approval, following Nintendo's legal action against Yuzu for copyright infringement initiated on February 26.
