Developer of Yuzu Emulator Responds to Nintendo's Lawsuit

The creator of the Yuzu emulator for Nintendo Switch, Tropic Haze, has formally responded to the lawsuit initiated by Nintendo of America. According to Eurogamer, the developer has confirmed the hiring of a lawyer through a waiver of service of summons. However, Tropic Haze has not released an official statement, and the emulator remains accessible on its website. The lawsuit, filed with the US District Court of Rhode Island on February 26, claims that Yuzu infringes on Nintendo's intellectual property and that of other parties by enabling the playback of Switch games on various platforms, including Windows, Linux, and Android. Nintendo also alleges that Tropic Haze has breached the Anti-Circumvention and Anti-Trafficking provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The lawsuit states, 'With Yuzu, users can obtain and play unauthorized copies of virtually any Nintendo Switch game without making any payments to Nintendo or the numerous game developers and publishers involved.' Nintendo is seeking 'equitable relief and damages for the unlawful circumvention of copyright protection systems and the unlawful trafficking of circumvention technology, in violation of the DMCA.'
