Former Disney Executive Joins Sega as Global Transmedia Head
Sega has announced the appointment of Justin Scarpone, a seasoned executive with a background at Disney and Scopely, as its new Executive Vice President and Head of Global Transmedia. Scarpone is set to assume his role on April 1 and will be responsible for driving growth across Sega's diverse portfolio, encompassing renowned franchises such as Persona, Like a Dragon, and Angry Birds. In a statement on LinkedIn, Scarpone expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with the team and partners worldwide to leverage the power of Sega's extensive intellectual property, aiming to deliver fresh narratives, innovative products, and novel entertainment services while prioritizing fan and community interests. With over three decades of experience in entertainment leadership, Scarpone previously spent 17 years at The Walt Disney Company, where he successfully oversaw the launches of several notable titles, including Line: Disney Tsum Tsum, Kingdom Hearts, and Marvel Future Fight. Following his tenure at Disney, Scarpone held the position of Senior Vice President and General Manager of Asia at Scopely, which he joined in 2019. Most recently, he has been serving as an advisor to game development firm Amber Studio and Tokyo-based startup AKA Virtual. The establishment of Sega's global transmedia strategy follows the remarkable success of the Sonic the Hedgehog film, which significantly boosted growth in merchandising, animation, live entertainment, and other content and service categories. Sega aims to replicate this success across its other intellectual properties, with this transmedia approach poised to serve as a key driver of growth over the next decade.
