EA Closes Down Ridgeline Games Studio
Electronic Arts has confirmed the shutdown of Ridgeline Games, the development studio behind an upcoming single-player campaign for the Battlefield series. According to reports from IGN, the project will continue, with a portion of Ridgeline's employees set to transition to Ripple Effect, another key studio within the Battlefield franchise. Following the departure of Ridgeline's founder, Marcus Lehto, an internal note obtained by IGN indicates that Criterion producer Danny Isaac and studio head of creative Darren White will oversee the project. The news comes amidst significant restructuring at EA, including widespread layoffs affecting 5% of the company's workforce, office closures, and the discontinuation of certain live service games. In a staff memo, EA CEO Andrew Wilson outlined plans to shift focus away from licensed IP projects deemed unlikely to succeed in the evolving gaming industry.
