Balatro Achieves $1 Million Milestone in Record Time

In a remarkable debut, a solo developer's first game has amassed over $1 million in revenue within a mere eight hours of its release. The UK-based publisher PlayStack revealed to GamesIndustry.biz that Balatro, a poker-themed roguelike deck-building game, surpassed the $1 million mark in record time. Notably, the game turned a profit within just one hour of going on sale. By the end of its first three days, Balatro had sold an impressive 250,000 copies across multiple platforms, including PC, PS5, Xbox, and Switch. This achievement marks a significant milestone for PlayStack, as Balatro is now the publisher's fastest-selling game in its eight-year history. PlayStack CEO Harvey Elliott expressed his astonishment at the game's success, stating, "We are thrilled by Balatro's achievement. Given the risks involved in publishing partnerships, especially in light of recent industry trends, it's a rare privilege to see a game reach profitability so quickly." Elliott praised both the developer, LocalThunk, and the PlayStack publishing team for their outstanding work. LocalThunk, overwhelmed by the game's reception, shared, "I created Balatro with the hope of sharing it with friends and family, but the outpouring of support from fans and PlayStack has been truly overwhelming. I am grateful for the opportunity to share this unique game with so many people."
