Supermassive Games to Reduce Workforce by 90%

Initial report, February 26, 2024: Supermassive Games is preparing to downsize its workforce, with approximately 90 employees expected to be let go. According to an internal email cited by Bloomberg, around 150 staff members have been informed that their positions are at risk. A representative from Supermassive Games confirmed that the company is entering a consultation period, which is anticipated to result in redundancies. This move is in compliance with UK labor laws, which require employers to provide advance notice before implementing large-scale layoffs. The announcement comes shortly after the founders of Supermassive, Pete Samuels and Joe Samuels, stepped down from their roles. Last month, it was announced that a film adaptation of Supermassive's Until Dawn had been given the green light. Update, February 27, 2024: Supermassive Games has issued a statement on social media in response to the layoff reports. The statement reads: 'The gaming industry is presently facing substantial challenges, and unfortunately, we are not exempt from this.' After careful consideration and with deep regret, we have decided to reorganize Supermassive Games. As a result, we are entering a consultation period, which we expect will lead to the loss of some of our colleagues. This decision was not made lightly, and we have explored all alternatives to avoid this outcome. We are acutely aware of the distress and difficulty this process will cause our employees, and we will work closely with those affected to ensure the process is conducted with respect and compassion. We are committed to focusing on our core strengths and upcoming titles to ensure the long-term sustainability of the company.
