Unity Sees 57% Revenue Increase to $2.1 Billion in 2023

Unity has announced its financial earnings for the fourth quarter and full year of 2023, revealing significant revenue growth and a reduction in net losses for both periods. However, the company's shares dropped by 17% as reported by CNBC. The fourth quarter of 2023 saw revenue of $609 million, representing a 35% year-on-year increase, and a net loss of $254 million, which is a decrease from the $288 million loss in the same period last year. Create Solutions revenue rose by 47% to $290 million, while Grow Solutions revenue increased by 26% to $319 million. For the full year of 2023, Unity's revenue reached $2.1 billion, a 57% increase, and its net loss narrowed to $826.3 million, a 10% decrease. The company attributed the revenue growth to the termination of its service agreement with VFX studio Weta, which resulted in $99 million of incremental revenue but also increased the net loss by $27 million. Without this transaction, Unity's revenue would have been $510 million, representing a 2% year-on-year decline. The Create Solutions division benefited from the termination, with revenue that would have been $190 million, a 4% year-on-year decrease, if the agreement had not ended. The Industries segment, which handles partnerships with non-games sectors, accounted for 23% of core subscriptions, up from 20% in the previous quarter and 19% in the same period last year. Despite a 26% year-on-year revenue increase in its Grow Solutions segment, Unity's performance was impacted by the controversial runtime fee proposal announced in September. Looking ahead, Unity forecasts revenue for the next fiscal year to be between $1.76 billion and $1.8 billion, representing a 2% to 4% decline year-on-year.
