Warner's Expectations Not Met by Suicide Squad Performance

According to Warner's CFO, Gunnar Wiedenfels, the recently released Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has failed to meet expectations. During a recent earnings call following the release of Q4 2023 results, Wiedenfels stated that despite being a key title for the year, the game's underwhelming sales have set the stage for a difficult year for the company's gaming division. Wiedenfels noted, "The performance of Suicide Squad, a key video game release in 2024, has been below our expectations since its launch, resulting in a tough year-over-year comparison for the first quarter." In contrast to Suicide Squad, Wiedenfels drew comparisons to the highly successful Hogwarts Legacy, which launched in February of the previous year. He observed, "We are now facing a challenging comparison due to the release of Hogwarts Legacy, which had a significant and positive financial impact in the first quarter." The company's financial reports highlighted the ongoing success of the Harry Potter title, with revenue increasing substantially following its release on Nintendo Switch during the fourth quarter.
