Gamescom 2026 proved to be a landmark event for the global gaming sector, drawing an impressive crowd of 368,000 attendees hailing from 131 different countries. This figure represents a solid 6% increase compared to the previous edition, underscoring the show’s growing appeal and its status as a premier gathering point for gamers, developers, and industry professionals alike. The exhibition floor was bustling with activity, as a total of 1,743 companies representing 66 nations set up booths and showcases.

This roster of participants grew by 11% over the 2025 show, highlighting a renewed enthusiasm among businesses to engage with the European market and to tap into the diverse audience that Gamescom attracts. International exhibitors made up a dominant 72% of the total exhibitor base, and the event featured 48 distinct country pavilions, providing a platform for 41 different nations to present their unique gaming cultures and innovations. Among the regions that experienced the most pronounced growth were Brazil, Canada, and the United States. These markets demonstrated a notable surge in both exhibitor presence and visitor interest, reflecting the expanding influence of North and South American developers on the European stage.

Over 36,000 trade visitors attended the fair, with roughly half of them traveling from outside Germany, reinforcing Gamescom’s reputation as a truly global hub for networking, business deals, and knowledge exchange. The companion conference, Gamescom Dev, also saw a healthy uptick in participation, with attendance climbing 15% to reach 6,200 visitors. Held in the days leading up to the main exhibition, the conference featured a robust program that included 397 speakers, 238 distinct sessions, and 18 separate stages.

This extensive lineup allowed for deep dives into topics ranging from emerging technologies and design philosophies to market trends and indie development strategies. In total, more than 2,500 companies from 95 countries were represented across both Gamescom and Gamescom Dev, complemented by 57 partners and additional exhibitors who contributed to the indie expo segment.

This broad representation underscores the event’s inclusive approach, catering not only to large, established studios but also to smaller, independent creators seeking exposure and collaboration opportunities. GamesIndustry.biz conducted an interview with Frederik Hammes, the managing director of Gamescom Dev, to discuss the outcomes of the annual Gamescom Dev survey.

The findings highlighted smaller studios as the most promising growth engine within the games market, suggesting that agility, creativity, and niche audience engagement are becoming increasingly valuable assets in a highly competitive industry. Digital engagement surrounding Gamescom continued to break records. By Saturday evening, the event’s online content had amassed more than 624 million global views, with the Opening Night Live broadcast alone accounting for 78 million of those impressions.

The Gamescom Awesome Indies Show, a showcase dedicated to independent titles, attracted over 302,000 viewers—a staggering increase of more than 670% compared with the previous year, indicating a surging appetite for indie content among the broader gaming community. The digital community adventure platform Gamescom Epix logged 6.2 million page views, representing an approximate 9% rise over the prior edition. This growth reflects the platform’s expanding role as a central hub for news, updates, and interactive experiences that keep fans and professionals connected throughout the multi‑day event. "In 2026, Gamescom delivered a powerful statement about its position as the central platform for the international games industry," remarked Felix Falk, managing director of the German Games Industry Association.

"Many of last year's record figures were surpassed, especially in terms of international participation and the number of exhibitors. The drive for the future can be felt here – it's what again propels the industry forward this year despite the challenges – and what makes the Gamescom atmosphere so unique." Gerald Böse, President and CEO of Koelnmesse, added his perspective: "Gamescom brings people from all over the world together, combining the economic and social significance of games on a scale like no other. This was an extremely successful Gamescom, and we are delighted by the event's strong international character.

It shows Gamescom's ever‑growing importance as the leading platform for everyone who plays, develops and creates games." Looking ahead, the organizers have already set the dates for the next edition. Gamescom 2027 is scheduled to run from August 25 to 29, with the Gamescom Dev conference slated for August 23 to 24. The continued growth in visitor numbers, exhibitor diversity, and digital reach suggests that the event will keep expanding its influence, offering even more opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and celebration of the gaming medium worldwide.
