French Union Raises Concerns Over Don't Nod Staff Wellbeing
A French union has expressed concerns about the welfare of employees at Life Is Strange developer Don't Nod, citing issues with the studio's organisation and communication. The union claims that the studio frequently changes deadlines, provides contradictory information, and reassigns staff without clear goals. As of October 2023, Don't Nod has eight projects in development. The union alleges that the studio's handling of the Jusant production team, which was disbanded after the game failed to meet commercial expectations, has left many staff members without work for extended periods. The team working on the upcoming Banishers game was reportedly informed of a launch delay just 30 minutes before the public announcement. The union is concerned about the psychological and social impact on Don't Nod workers, who are reportedly experiencing increased stress and needing to take sick leave. The union also claims that all teams are understaffed and that contractors are being hired on precarious contracts to deal with production emergencies. Don't Nod management has allegedly refused direct communication with the union and is relying on a notice board to inform employees about important matters, despite 75% of employees working remotely. The union has called on Don't Nod management to take concrete measures to address the problems and listen to employee concerns. In response, Don't Nod has stated that the allegations do not align with the company's values and culture, and that it prioritises creating a supportive and inclusive work environment. The company has also stated that it takes the allegations seriously and is committed to addressing any issues raised constructively.
