Kadokawa Corporation Acquires Acquire, Developer of Octopath Traveler
Kadokawa Corporation, the parent company of FromSoftware, has acquired Acquire, the development studio behind Octopath Traveler, for an undisclosed amount. This move was revealed in the company's latest quarterly earnings report. According to Kadokawa, the acquisition aims to bolster its ability to create intellectual properties in the gaming sector as part of its overall game business strategy. By making Acquire a wholly-owned subsidiary, the company expects to leverage synergies with its existing gaming subsidiaries, enhance its planning and development capabilities, and expand its console game lineup. Founded in 1994, Acquire has developed several notable titles, including games within franchises owned by Kadokawa subsidiaries, such as Spike Chunsoft's Way of the Samurai series and FromSoftware's Tenchu series.
