Scotland Approves Nationwide Gaming Strategy

The Scottish government has pledged its support for a national gaming strategy, aiming to bolster the industry's growth within the country. In collaboration with the Scottish Games Network, Techscaler, and CodeBase, the government intends to establish a more vibrant gaming ecosystem, enhancing the nation's capacity to effectively support the sector as it expands and evolves. Although details of the strategy are currently limited, the Scottish Games Network is set to spearhead the development of an action plan, providing concrete recommendations to increase awareness and support for gaming, engaging stakeholders from the industry, education, and public sectors. A series of workshops will be announced at a later date, scheduled to take place across Scotland. The gaming industry contributes over £188 million to the Scottish economy annually, as noted in the announcement. Acting co-CEO of UKIE, Daniel Wood, expressed enthusiasm for contributing to this initiative, while the specifics of their involvement remain unclear. Brian Baglow, Director of the Scottish Games Network, remarked: "Scotland's gaming sector is a hidden gem, offering immense potential to the nation's economy and digital future, albeit lacking the recognition afforded to fields like data, fintech, or film. The national strategy will facilitate greater understanding of the gaming industry's vast potential, bolster support for the ecosystem, and position Scotland as a trailblazer in this remarkable industry." The Scottish Games Network previously secured a grant in 2020 to map Scotland's gaming industry and is also the driving force behind the inaugural Scottish Games Week, which debuted in 2022.
