Devolver's Artificer Studio Hit with Significant Layoffs

According to reports by Kotaku, Artificer, a Polish game development studio, has undergone a substantial reduction in workforce, affecting nearly half of its employees. This comes after the release of their turn-based tactics game, Showgunners, which debuted on Steam in May to overwhelmingly positive reviews. It is anticipated that further layoffs will occur, with around 10-12 remaining developers expected to stay on temporarily to complete the studio's upcoming game before also being let go. The studio's parent company, Devolver Digital, has not yet provided a statement on the matter. Devolver Digital acquired Artificer as part of its purchase of Good Shepherd Entertainment in January 2021, with Good Shepherd having initially acquired a majority stake in Artificer back in 2019.
