German Games Industry Forecasts Limited Growth for 2024

A recent survey conducted by Game, the German trade association, reveals a predominantly pessimistic outlook among the country's game developers and publishers regarding the industry's prospects in 2024. The study, which polled 125 member companies, found that a mere 12% of respondents expect the German games industry to experience positive economic growth this year, a significant decline from the 48% who were optimistic about 2023. In contrast, 50% of companies are confident about their own business growth, although this represents a decrease from the 64% who held similar expectations for 2023. Furthermore, 40% of German game companies anticipate an increase in their workforce, while 22% expect to reduce their staff, up from 6% last year. According to Game's managing director, Felix Falk, the industry's diminished optimism stems from global market pressures and inconsistent domestic funding policies, emphasizing the need for a robust games policy and internationally competitive conditions to ensure the industry's long-term viability.
